About Carsplained
Carsplained puts what's on public record about a car on one page per model year: owner complaints by part, recalls, service bulletins, defect investigations, NHTSA crash-test ratings, EPA fuel economy, and a fuel cost at your state's prices. It covers every car EPA has rated since 2006.
How it's made
- Every number comes from free public data from NHTSA, the U.S. EPA and the U.S. Energy Information Administration, refreshed from their own files. We don't buy data. About the data lists each source and its date.
- The short summary at the top of a page is written by AI from that page's numbers only, labeled as such, and checked: a summary is published only if every number in it is on the page.
- We don't drive or rate cars and give no opinions; the records speak for themselves.
